Joe Somodi, Lifestyle Concierge, Meditation Guide
When you see yourself and your world clearly, life is a manifestation of joy. When pain and sorrow cloud your vision, it takes mind-body healing to refocus your lens on life.
How Can I Help You?
When you wake up in the morning, your vision is blurry until your eyes focus, your mind clears, and everything around you seems to fall into place. My goal is to extend that moment of clarity to the rest of your life. I’m a lifestyle concierge. Not quite sure what that means? That’s because I invented the term to describe what I do. When you go on an adventure to an exciting new city, a hotel concierge helps you plan your day so you get the most enjoyment possible. He or she helps you decide where to go, then makes sure you can get there, arranging transportation, securing hard-to-get reservations or tickets, and making incredible experiences possible. I aim to do that for every aspect of your life, by helping you define your goals, then showing you how to get there through yoga and meditation. Those are the same methods I used to find joy and clarity myself, after life knocked me down—literally.
Finding My Focus
For 15 years, I observed the world through the lens of a camera. I own and operated 20/20 Video Productions, working with Broadway actors, professional athletes, and Fortune 500 companies to tell their unique stories. One day, at the peak of my company’s success, I was walking through Time Square when a back spasm dropped me to my knees. I could no longer stand up straight. I was 32, fit, flexible and ate my greens. I had no idea why this was happening.
The spasms continued. I sought the advice of numerous doctors and specialists, but not one could provide a path to long-term health. The debilitating pain didn’t allow me to see the world clearly. Eventually, I realized it was up to me to take complete responsibility for my life, my body, and my mind. I was already practicing yoga and it spoke to me, so I decided to dive deeper. By experimenting with different teachers and styles, I realized that yoga, like love, is different for each person—and needs to be practiced in a way that suits the individual. When I met my mentor, Rod Stryker, he taught me what an important role the mind plays, as well. Eventually I become a certified yoga teacher, life coach and reiki practicioner. And my spasms? Over time, they disappeared. That led to my Oprah “ah-ha moment”: I realized I could not heal my body without addressing my mind and spirit.
Sharing My Vision
My 8-year journey from pain to joy taught to continually refocus my lens on life. It also made me want to help others refocus their lives. With that goal in mind, I started 20/20 Yoga. For 10 years, I have been teaching Hatha-Tantra Yoga, which blends deep breathing practices, concentration techniques, visualizations, meditation, and mindful movement into a unique alchemy that transforms the body-mind energy. It offers a wide array of tools to dissolve your pain so you can see the world with 20/20 clarity and experience life as joy.
Following my own path to joy led me to from New York to Colorado, where I now live with my husband of 17 years, Kurt. But I work with seekers all over the country, both by traveling to teach and speaking at workshops, conferences and retreats, and through my online 30-Day Impact Challenge, which I think of as a “welcome mat” for exploring mediation. As a Lifestyle Concierge, I can dive deeper with you into your personal journey to create customized yoga and meditation practices that fit your body and soul. To paraphrase an old song, you’ll be amazed at how you can see clearly now the pain is gone. Join me, and start seeing life clearly today.
